With the winter storm activity and up-coming monsoons, it’s important to remember the crop insurance claims process if crop damage occurs. The most important step is to call your crop insurance agent as soon possible after a potentially harmful weather event occurs. The deadline is within 72 hours and it’s is critical to file a Notice of Loss (NOL) timely.
After a Notice of Loss is submitted, it is immediately transmitted for adjuster assignment. Soon after, the policyholder will be contacted by the adjuster to acknowledge the NOL and to discuss the extent of damage and qualify the loss. If it is determined that an immediate inspection is required, a convenient appointment date will be set.
After completing the necessary paperwork and submitting supporting documents to the Underwriting Office, the claim will be processed and potential indemnity will be paid. Either way, the most important step is to get that initial claim in place.
Crop-Hail and Field Grain Fire policies have the same general guidelines with the 72-hour notification period.
